- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 6 oz can tomato paste
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, salt, basil, and black pepper to the skillet. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Layer 4 lasagna noodles, followed by 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of the meat sauce, and 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat layers twice more, finishing with a layer of mozzarella cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.
